Hangin' poolside March 2010

What started out as a great and wonderful idea for a fun filled evening, didn't quit turn out as planned. We shouldn't really be surprised though such is the life of a parent with a toddler. It's the unpredictable moments that leave us puzzled and wondering, did we do something wrong? Last night was one such evening. My cousin Lindsey and Henry's godmother was in Vermillion and staying at a hotel with a pool. Wonderful, Matt and I thought to ourselves, we'll pack up Henry and take him swimming he'll be in heaven. He loved it so much last year. We both gave ourselves a big pat on the back and set off.

Henry has the most adorable swimming suit set that I just HAD to try out. We got him all stripped down and started with the swimmer diaper. That is where disaster started. Apparantly the Large up to 34 lbs wasn't quit big enough for my little guy and his junk in the trunk. He started pulling at the swimmer saying diaper off mommy. Great, it starts. I ignore the gasps and moans as my little guy can be quit the drama king and finished his adorable outfit off. Plopped him down and away we went. We hadn't even stepped near the pool and Henry was gripped my arm so tight that it went dumb with pain. He was screaming and flalling his legs. "No mommy water all done NOOO!!!!" What???? This isn't my child. The happy go lucky baby who would jump in daddy's arms in a moments notice and splash in the pool with his lady friends. This can't be the same little boy.

Matt and I tried everything from slowly exposing him to the water, letting him kick daddy with water. We even told him there was a BIG truck in the water. That last part sparked his interest and he would slowly walk around the pool. Then finally he would let me hold him on the edge splashing water at daddy. Lastly, he did let Matt hold him in the water. He tolerated it for about 5 minutes, but that was 5 minutes longer then I had thought going into the whole thing. Matt did a wonderful job of coaxing Henry into the water. He was so patient and persistent. Both him and Lindsey did great distracting Henry from the horrible merciless water monsters. Mommy, on the other hand, did her best to appear calm and collected, but she left soaked and exhausted. Henry finally giving in and enjoying himself even for just a moment.
Daddy and Henry were splashing Lindsey as she pretended to run away.

But, THIS is what we had to start with. Henry's adorable outfit soon found itself on the sidelines at it was so raging hot in the pool.
